Why do meteors disappear in the atmosphere?

this is so confusing for me. what do it disappear?

Meteors disappear in the atmosphere because the heat is produced due to the
    friction between them and the atmosphere. Then, it starts glowing brightly and
    changes into gas and vapor and disappears.
